1. Hello Song: Glad to See You by Peter and Ellen Allard
2. Letter of the Day: "D"
3. Read Dinosaur Roar by Paul Stickland
4. Sing 10 Big Dinosaurs (sung to 10 Little Indians - courtesy Perry Public Library)
1
big, 2 big, 3 big dinosaurs
4
big, 5 big, 6 big dinosaurs
7
big, 8 big, 9 big dinosaurs
10
big dinosaurs: roar, roar, roar (the "roar" part is my addition)
10
big, 9 big, 8 big dinosaurs
7
big, 6 big, 5 big dinosaurs
4
big, 3 big, 2 big dinosaurs
1 big
dinosaur: roar, roar, roar
One
dinosaur went out to play
On
a giant fern one day
She
had such enormous fun
That
she called for another dinosaur to come:
Raise hands to cup mouth, and call
loudly: Oh, Diiiiiiiiiinosaur!
Slap hands on thighs to make “running”
sounds.
Two
dinosaurs went out to play…
Three
dinosaurs…
Four
dinosaurs…
Five
dinosaurs went out to play
On
a giant fern one day
They
had such enormous fun
That they played until the day was
done!
These are my versions. I love how they turned out. Still need a fern though...
7. Read Dinosaur vs Bedtime by Bob Shea
8. Sing The Wheels on the Bus
9. Sing Goodbye by Old Town Folk Music
10. End with handing out each kid a coloring page and stamping their hands with a dinosaur.
How it went:
A fairly successful storytime. My group was mostly full of older preschoolers and I think they got a little bored at the end. Storytime usually swings young, so this was a surprise for me and I didn't bring a backup story. Dinosaur vs. Bedtime didn't quite have the reception I was hoping for. However, doing "We are the Dinosaurs" was so incredibly fun. We marched in a circle and it was so very cute. I'm going to have to do that again.
The 5 Little Dinosaurs went over super well too. The kids loved calling out "oh dinosaur" and stomping.
I also decided to sing a dinosaur version of "If you're happy and you know it". It was totally unplanned and not well orchestrated, but fun anyway.
